“In order to fully utilize the originally set allocation of 2.25 million crowns, we have decided, in cooperation with the Prague Innovation Institute, to open the second round, when we will also give the opportunity to other schools that work with gifted and exceptionally gifted children and pupils to receive subsidy of up to 450 thousand crowns for the development of talents and business. At the same time, registered schools can be inspired by good examples from abroad as part of pan-European Twinning,” says Vít Šimral, Prague councilor for education.
Thanks to this activity, workshops and cooperation with key partners in the field of talent care, it was possible to define tools, professional mentoring and coaching that will help to improve the existing care system for talented and gifted children in selected partner schools in Prague.
“Insufficiently developed care for talented and exceptionally gifted children in Czech education has a long-term negative impact on the development of Prague’s innovation ecosystem, as it is the potential of these children that can lead to its intensive development and to the strengthening of Prague’s position in terms of “VaVal” – research, experimental development and innovation on international level,” adds councilor Šimral.
For hl. m Prague, work with gifted children has great potential. The share of university-educated residents totals 30 percent of the population over 15 years of age, which is twice the national average. The concentration of public universities, other tertiary education organizations or scientific and research capacities is also the highest in the whole of the Czech Republic.
