Mother of two (27) takes her high school diploma with a dream grade of 1.0
Now she wants to be a teacher
Go back to school at the age of 27 and have two children and graduate from high school? This works out! Cecilie Barthels from the Hanover region graduated with a dream grade of 1.0.
Wennigsen. Passing the Abitur with the dream grade of 1.0 is in itself an excellent achievement. Cecilie Barthels from Bredenbeck near Hanover, however, managed to do this on a second educational path at the age of 27 as a single mother of two children. With the certificate of the general university entrance qualification, all doors are now open to the trained bookbinder for a course of study and a professional reorientation. “It was the right decision,” she says, looking back on her path, on which she sometimes had to take detours.
First high school and then continue to study at the university or technical college? For Barthels, in her early school career, this was not as natural as it was for many other young people. After graduating from secondary school in Halle (Saale), the young woman first wanted to get out of the school corset and start independently with an apprenticeship. In 2016 she moved from Halle to Bredenbeck and began an apprenticeship at a bookbindery. In the middle of that, the first daughter was born. “After a year of maternity leave, I completed the training and the exam,” she says.
