Romanian Academy criticizes research reform in Moldova
The Romanian Academy supports the protest of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova against the reform of higher education, through which it promotes the research institute of the ASM to be assimilated by universities, they transmit. Radio Free Europe.
The reorganization plan proposed by the Chisinau Ministry of Education provides for the concentration of resources by integrating small universities and research institutes into larger universities, keeping separate funding for research, amid a dramatic demographic decline in the country.
Like the academics in the Republic of Moldova, those in Romania for such decisions should be based on an objective and transparent evaluation, on a convincing argument and discussions throughout the scientific community ”.
“The very idea of concentrating research under a single aegis and under a single leadership seems to us to remind us of the period of the communist dictatorship”, it is said in the statement of the Bureau of the Presidium of the Romanian Academy. The authors do not go into details, but probably refer to the fact that Moldovan universities are accredited and controlled by the Ministry of Education and Research.
„In Romania, the official scientific research and intellectual creation are carried out within several parallel entities (Romanian Academy, universities, Ministry of Research), which collaborate very well with each other and are in fair competition. Stimulating research cannot be done otherwise “, it is also shown in this Romanian Academy.
Romanian scholars certified Moldovan to stop the announced reorganization and to return the research institutes within the ASM.
