Kielpark gets ‘poetic’ basketball court: no lines, just words around the field | Antwerp
AntwerpThere is also poetry in basketball. Certainly at the Kiel: Friday the district of Antwerp in the Kielpark has a poem for the renewed basketball court solution. Former city poet Sekou Ouologuem wrote it. For the time being, you can read it on a board, in the autumn the text will form the lines of the basketball court.
The summer holidays have been going on for a week and Friday was a very nice moment for the children and other residents of the Kiel. Former city poet Seckou inspired the spectators with a clever poem, Antwerp Giants player Quinten Smout provided basketball initiation.
Reconstruction completed
“With this poetic basketball court, we will complete the redevelopment of the park in the course of this year,” says district alderman for Sport Charlie Van Leuffel (N-VA). “We have laid new asphalt on the basketball court and placed new posts and rings.”
The area around it is also being addressed. There are two pieces of sitting walls, extra opportunity and a softened piece.
Sekou wants to inspire. Glad I could participate in a project that brings more poetry to the streets. I hope my words give all basketball players to the best of themselves.”
Renewal Kiel Park
The district has already done a lot of work throughout the Kielpark. District Alderman for Youth and Landscaping Tom Van den Borne (Green): “We have released a budget of more than 400,000 euros for the thorough redevelopment of the park. We will provide extra goals, benches, new playground equipment and better walking paths.”
