Toulouse: the Food Bank launches the first dematerialized collection
The Food Bank was launched Monday at the Leclerc supermarket in Rouffiac, its dematerialized collection until July 9.
This is a “first” for the Food Bank of Toulouse and its region. Until July 9, it makes a dematerialized collection with the Leclerc store in Rouffiac. “In other words, specifies Aurélie Racine, the director, we offer customers to give money instead of products. A way for us to diversify our collection sources. A situation justified by a constantly increasing number of beneficiaries, (+ 15% since January 2022) and a record shortage of supply products such as flour, coffee or oil. Since the big collection of 2021, we have unfortunately had a drop in donations of one hundred tons. We now have to juggle between our diminishing resources and increasing beneficiaries.”
The Food Bank supplies 110 associations in Haute-Garonne, Tarn and Ariège
This collection, which takes place at supermarket checkouts, should enable the association to collect financial donations and to be able to buy priority consumer products: “Let’s not forget that France is currently experiencing a major social crisis, aggravated by the health crisis. The modest homes of yesterday have become precarious homes. Occitania also has, according to INSEE, the largest number of poor workers”. Women and young people are the two most affected audiences.
A beginning of fundraising which reveals itself however in halftones: “People are solicited all the time and do what they can”.
The Toulouse Food Bank supplies 110 associations in Haute-Garonne, Ariège and Tarn. Since the beginning of the year, every week, 24,000 people have provided this assistance.
