They walked to discover the new GR46 to Toulouse
Nearly 150 walkers took part in the opening of the new route of the GR46 long-distance hiking trail, which the departments of the department inaugurated from Friday to Sunday over 55 km between Roquesérière and Toulouse. “Many hikers lived in the villages we passed through and most were surprised to discover these paths close to their homes. Because today, we only travel by car!”, notes Didier Cujives , departmental councilor and president of Haute-Garonne Tourisme.
“Even in Toulouse, we discovered streets and architecture that we do not know,” enthuses the elected official. He continues: “That’s the whole point of our policy. We often talk about soft roaming and, here we are. These are routes on which you can take your time”. Also, Sunday at midday, the arrival at the Saint-Sernin basilica was a highlight of the inauguration of this route integrated into the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, between Conques and Toulouse. Precisely, Didier Cujives and his counterparts from the departments of Aveyron, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne will meet on Tuesday July 12 in Conques in order to perfect a historic and world-renowned route, which everyone must be able to travel in the best conditions.
