I. Šimonytė: Lithuania is ready to continue and strengthen expert support for Ukraine
Lithuania is ready to continue and strengthen expert support to Ukraine, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė claims, the Government Communication Department reported on Monday.
“It is necessary to take advantage of this moment of concentration and political will for the decisive implementation of reforms, and Lithuania, in turn, is ready to strengthen the already provided expert support,” said I. Šimonytė.
According to her, Lithuania perfectly sees Ukraine’s financial needs.
“We contribute to the efforts of the international community and provide financial assistance to Ukraine both by joining the measures created by international institutions and on a bilateral basis,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
At the Ukrainian reconstruction conference in Lugano (Switzerland) I. Šimonytė met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhalis on Monday.
They discussed the progress of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the impact of the war on Ukraine’s economy and international trade, the possibilities of Ukrainian grain export, the next steps after granting the European Union (EU) candidate status to Ukraine, Lithuania’s support in responding to Ukraine’s most urgent needs and implementing European integration reforms.
I. Šimonytė congratulated D. Šimonytė on the historic decision granting Ukraine the status of an EU country candidate, it is noted that the mobilization of Ukraine and institutions, in the Government’s report, is taking place for the war in a record short time and the quality of the EU questionnaire is excellent.
Ukraine Luga belongs to the reconstruction plan, which is being prepared by Lithuanian experts.
The total amount of Lithuanian support, including the reception of war refugees, already exceeds half of 0.5 billion. euros.
In the near future, 2 million dollars will be transferred to Ukraine on a bilateral basis. EUR grant for humanitarian aid to support Ukrainians who left the war zones in Ukraine to the west of the country.
