Toulouse. TUC: the title and the return to the elite
At the end of a season without the slightest defeat, the BTRex team of the TUC was crowned champion of France. A result synonymous with a return to National 1.
“Yes, the goal was to get back to the top flight.” Coach of the TUC BTRex team, Elie Poussou can close the 2021-2022 chapter on the best note. Undefeated in twelve games, his troops not only won the title of N2 (June 12 in Rennes), but they also obtained the ticket for the upper floor. “We left Nationale 1 in 2018-2019. Obviously, we wanted to come back. Regarding the workforce, there have been a lot of changes over the past three years. This season, we had a good mix of young and old, for an average age of 29,” continues the coach.
On the sporting level, the National 2 was played in three phases. “At the start, there are twelve teams divided into two pools. The first three go to the upper pool. Then, we switch to the last four. At the finish, we have won all our matches, for a total of twelve victories” , specifies Elie Poussou.
In the semis, the TUC dominated Rennes (15-12). “We arrived an hour and a half before the start of the match to do a big warm-up. On the scoreboard, we always read the score”, underlines the coach. On the other hand, in the final against Le Mans, the suspense did not last long (15-7). “In any case, since the first game of the season, we have taken steps, in particular on the intelligence of the game and on a more collective defense”, insists the technician. As for this return to National 1, the Toulouse people want to stay there for a long time. “The new season will start in September, but we will attack with the championship on the sand, there also in N1”, details Elie Poussou.
For her part, Coralie Mycek, president of the club, gives a positive assessment of the TUC version 2021-2022: “We have 140 licensees and, above all, a strong demand. For the moment, we benefit from the infrastructures on the Daniel-Faucher sites and Paul-Sabatier. At the same time, we are renting land from Creps. On this last point, we would like another solution. We hope to have new slots via the town hall of Toulouse.”
