Mercato: Monaco has targeted its priority to replace Tchouamni
Following the departure of Aurlien Tchouamni to Real Madrid, AS Monaco is looking for his successor in midfield. The priority of the Principality club is in England.
Soumar plays little Leicester
Who to replace Aurlien Tchouamni? After selling their talented midfielder to Real Madrid for 100 million euros (including bonuses) this summer, AS Monaco are looking for the French international’s successor in midfield. And given the importance taken by the former Bordelais on the Rock these last two seasons, the task is not easy.
The Principality club thinks it has found the ideal profile. For this, Monegasque leaders look to England. And more precisely in the ranks of Leicester City. According to Foot Mercato, the 3rd of the last Ligue 1 season is made by Boubakary Soumar (23) as a priority. A well-known name in France since he trained at Paris Saint-Germain before exploding in the jersey of Lille, where he played from 2017 to 2021.
Falling game time
One after his departure from LOSC to discover the Premier League, will the native of Noisy-le-Sec be tempted by a return to France? At Monaco, coach Philippe Clément has made Soumar his top priority. Asmist leaders could therefore convince him by offering him a starting position. Which is far from the case at present Leicester, where he is under contract until June 2025.
Regularly used by the Foxes during the first part of the season, the ex-Lillois practically disappeared from the radar from February. He has only played 2 league games (11 minutes against Brentford, then 67 minutes against Tottenham) out of his team’s last 17. The English adventure is therefore not going as he hopes and a Monaco rebound could tempt him. In case of failure, the Mongasques have other options and think in particular of Lille Amadou Onana.
