Saint Agatha BerchemThe Flemish Holiday is traditionally held on 11 July in Brussels. But Saturday was already celebrated in the municipality of Sint-Agatha Berchem. music started in the town hall and continued in the community center De Kroon, where a cozy dinner was on the program.
With ‘Vlaanderen Feest’, the municipality of Sint-Agatha Berchem wants to put the spotlight on the Dutch-speaking community and celebrate the arrival of summer. “The Flemish, Dutch-speaking community plays an important role in Brussels,” said Alderman Katia Van Den Broucke (Green), responsible for Dutch-speaking affairs. “But we don’t just celebrate with them. People who speak another language are also welcome today.”
New construction projects were also proposed. “In collaboration with the Flemish Community Commission, the municipality has found a solution for the academy,” explains Van Den Broucke. “It is currently housed in a school, but the classrooms are too small. At the end of September we will start with a new construction project. The plans have been made and the permits have been issued.” There will also be a new home for the nursery.
During the Japanese girls, two girls also performed in Ukrainian. “It is important to establish a link with current events,” the ships say. “We are all indirectly victims of the war.” Later in the day, the festivities move to Community Center De Kroon, accompanied by the brass band. “It is great that the event can continue after two years. Soon we will all be able to enjoy sweet or salty pancakes together in De Kroon. And there is also some music on the menu. It’s a great day many people are celebrating at the Dutch-speaking community, hopefully many more people will join,” concludes Van Den Broucke.
