Catholic Action Salzburg: Elisabeth Mayer remains President
Salzburg, July 2, 2022 (KAP) Elisabeth Mayer remains President of Catholic Action Salzburg (KA). At the general meeting of KA Salzburg on Friday, she was confirmed in office, as was Vice President Johannes Huber. This was announced by the Archdiocese of Salzburg in a broadcast. Hildegard Macking was therefore newly elected to the Executive Committee. The two re-elected members and the newly elected Vice-President have now been at the head of the largest Catholic lay organization in the Archdiocese of Salzburg for three years. Archbishop Franz Lackner has yet to confirm the election.
The Archbishop of Salzburg was a guest at the General Assembly in the Salzburg Chapter Hall, as was the President of Catholic Action Austria, Ferdinand Kaineder. “Thank you for your commitment, for everything you do to be the voices of the laity in the church,” adapted Lackner’s words of thanks to the members of the general meeting, led by Elisabeth Mayer.
“For six years I have been able to be on the road with the Catholic Action Salzburg as President. I really enjoy the experience of great full-time and voluntary commitment,” emphasized the re-elected President Mayer. As described in the new KA mission statement, Catholic Action is working to build a relationship and community structure in the spirit of the Gospel and to live with the people, says Mayer. “I think we always manage to do that and I’m grateful to all of our fellow campaigners for that.”
Mayer was convinced that not only within the church, but also in civil society and the public, the KA with its branches were institutions and a valued cooperation and dialogue partner. “With a run this good, I don’t want to get off abruptly.”
“From youth work to education and charitable work, KA and its branches play an important role in the common good of society. It’s worth continuing to get involved,” stressed the re-elected KA Vice President Johannes Huber.
“We live in a time of many changes, great diversity and high speed. For me it is a place of rest, pause and prayer. The culture of celebrating mass, our sacraments and the church year are a treasure,” said the newly elected KA -Vice President Hildegard Mackinger.
The previous Vice-President of Catholic Action, Gunter Mackinger, was awarded the Order of Merit of Saints Rupert and Virgil in Gold by Archbishop Lackner at the General Assembly for his many years of volunteer work in the church. In his laudatory speech, KA Salzburg General Secretary Simon Ebner addressed Gunter Mackinger as a committed Catholic, enthusiastic Christian, seeker of God and believer. Ebner also described Mackinger as a “door opener for politicians of all stripes”. The basis of the KA and Mackinger’s commitment are the gospel and Catholic social teaching.
