Toulouse: the Vikings Dodgeball, the first Toulouse Dodgeball team
Since last February, a first Dodgeball team has formed in Toulouse: the Vikings Dodgeball31. And this sport is wildly successful.
Those who saw Ben Stiller’s performance in the movie “Dodgeball Not Bad!” released in 2004 will see their memories revived.
Last February, a Dodgeball team was formed at the Union and it is the first of its kind in the department. But first of all, what is Dodgeball? It’s like dodgeball but in an ultra-sporty version.
During a match, two teams of six players compete for two 15-minute halves on a badminton court. The object of the game is to eliminate opposing players while avoiding getting hit by the ball. The game is played with five fabric balls. Teams can be female, male or mixed. Behind this idea of a Toulouse team: Kevin Boy, 34 years old, extracurricular animator at the elementary school of the Union. “I was playing dodgeball with the kids. With a former high-level handball player colleague, we discovered that there was a French Dodgeball Federation with established clubs when we got started,” says the president, coach and player of the VikingsDodgeball31 enthusiastically. :
A children’s section
In order to build a team, he used his network and in a few weeks a club of 12 members was formed. “It’s mixed and the youngest player is 22, the oldest 46. This sport is very fun but we train like sportsmen with cardio, bodybuilding, training matches, ”explains the enthusiast. Twice a week at the Halle Saint-Caprais de l’Union, these players train for practice, on Tuesdays and Fridays. When they launched their team, they did not master according to the rules of this explosive sport. Quickly, they got used to it and took part in the French championships in Beauvais (Oise). “In fact, the Red Roosters of Bordeaux did not have enough players to participate in the competition, we went there”, slips the president of the club again.
Easy registration requests. So much so that the club opened a children’s section for registration at the start of the school year. “I already have a lot of requests for September for the little ones”, underlines, delighted, Kevin Boy. For this year, training is over but the Vikings Dodgeball31 intend to get back in shape at the start of the school year and make a name for themselves in the discipline.
