2021, year of economic recovery according to IMSEE
Gradually, the impact of the health crisis is easing for a return to normal even if fears hover over 2022.
The grail has arrived. Awaited by a large part of the economic world, the Monegasque Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) has just presented the figures for the year 2021 in its 2022 edition of the Monaco in figures. From the economy to employment, including the population and the environment, the Institute has collected numerous data which it presented to the Monaco Economic Board on Tuesday 28 June.
The trend is looking good in 2021. Indeed, according to IMSEE, the year marked the recovery of the economy after a gloomy 2020. The Principality’s budget has again returned to a surplus of eight million euros and most sectors of activity are close to or have returned to their 2019 level of activity. Retail trade has even exceeded its 2019 level. On the other hand, the hotel industry and catering are doing better than in 2020 but are still struggling compared to 2019.

Real estate and employment in good health
Despite the various waves of Covid that have swept through the Principality, the number of employees has deteriorated compared to 2019. Thus, the Principality now has more than 58,000 employees.
Real estate is no exception. With an increase of 74.3% over the period 2012-2021, the average price per m² now peaks at €52,000.
