Resumption of the Covid: in Toulouse, the mask recommended in the metro
The resumption of the Covid is strong in Haute-Garonne where the wearing of a mask, if not compulsory, is strongly recommended in public transport.
Not compulsory but highly recommended, the mask is partly back in Toulouse public transport. Since Tuesday, following a meeting of prefects and directors of regional health agencies with the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, Etienne Guyot, prefect of Haute-Garonne, asked Tisséo to encourage users of the bus network, tram and metro to wear the mask. And since that day, says Tisséo, sound announcements have been broadcast in the metro. Since this Thursday, it is on its social networks that Tisséo has also been spreading the message before the screens of the stations will soon remind you of the barrier gestures.
The resumption of the Covid epidemic is here. In Haute-Garonne in particular, the fifth most affected department. Last year, from mid-June, recalls the departmental director of the ARS, Thierry Cardouat, the scenario was identical with the Delta variant. This time, the BA5 variant has become the majority. “It is not more virulent than the previous one but more contagious”, continues the head of the ARS.
Not more dangerous, it means that it does not result in a rise in hospitalizations. This Thursday, in Haute-Garonne, eleven people (including nine at the CHU) were in intensive care, or 9% of the beds. But this variant is not insignificant: it can cause fever, ENT disorders, digestive disorders, etc.
A 67% increase in cases
The recovery is there and it is strong as the latest figures available: 933 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, this represents an increase of 67% in one week, underlines Thierry Cardouat. The screening rate increased by 3.7% over seven days. The 45-65 age group is particularly affected with an incidence rate of 1,181 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
To date, no obligation has been decided. But the authorities call for the “responsibility of all”, that is to say that they recommend the wearing of a mask in all closed places in the presence of people.
The director of the ARS also recommends the fourth dose for all those who are eligible, starting with those over 60. Just go to a pharmacy or a health professional. This Thursday, the president of the scientific committee, Jean-François Delfraissy, revealed that the peak would be for the end of July.
