Region convinces Audi to reuse air purification
At Audi Brussels in Forest, the car manufacturer and the Brussels water management company Hydria signed the first contract for the reuse of polluted situations in the presence of the Brussels Minister of Climate Transition and the Environment Alain Maron on Wednesday. It starts with the reuse of the project, where the waste water is reused in the Brussels South water treatment plant.
ReUse is a project developed by Hydria that aims to work with water in a more sustainable and circular way. The aim is to avoid the use of drinking water in cases where it is not necessary.
The Brussels South water treatment plant, managed by Hydria, processes the waste water of 360,000 inhabitants of Brussels. “With the Brussels-South purification station near our factory, we have an innovative technology to save water. This reiterates our commitment to sustainable business,” said Volker Germann, CEO of Audi Brussels.
Audi Brussels is the first company to sign a contract with Hydria within ReUse. The water from the water treatment plant is used in the production chain, mainly in the paint department, the car wash and the cooling towers.
After use, if necessary, the water will be sanitized on site by Audi Brussels and reused on site for other activities. In this way, 100,000 m³ of drinking water will be saved annually, the equivalent of 40 Olympic swimming pools.
