The LEC Summer Split finals are held in Malmö Arena, Sweden
LEC returns to a live arena for the end of the 2022 Summer Split. Europe’s best will fight for the honor in Sweden, in Malmö Arena, on 10 September and 11 September. The semi-final and the subsequent grand final will directly determine the seeding of the LEC team on its way to the League of Legends World Championship 2022
Head of the League of Legends Esports EMEA, Maximilian Schmidt, stated“We are really pleased to announce that we will be hosting our summer final 2022 in Malmö, Sweden. As we are the first roadshow we have arranged away from our Berlin studio in three years, we can not wait to give the fans an unforgettable We are happy to work with the city of Malmö again and look forward to bringing the breathtaking atmosphere to their city. ”
2019 was the last time that LEC held its biggest event of the year in a similar venue as Athens, Greece, hosted the clash between G2 and Fnatic in the grand final. For 2020, the LEC had plans to do a roadshow again for both the Spring Split and Summer Split finals, but those plans were shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 finals in both Splits, also between G2 and Fnatic, were played from home. In 2021, the LEC finalists – MAD Lions and Rogue in the spring, and MAD Lions and Fnatic in the summer – played from the studio in Berlin, but without any fans present.
The Spring Split finals in 2022 promised a slow return to normal, as G2 and Rogue were allowed to fight for the trophy in front of a small audience in the Berlin studio. The positive trend continued in Summer Split, when LEC announced that an audience would be welcome in the studio again during all match days in Split.
Malmö’s arena can accommodate up to 15,500 fans for concentrates, or just over 12,000 for sports, but it is not yet certain whether LEC will try to fill so many seats. Ticket sales go live July 1 on Malmö Arena’s website.
