Infraestrutura de Portugal (IP) foresees the project in the coming weeks for the tender for the modernization of the West Line between Caldas da Rainha and Louçal, included in the Ferrovia 2030 program.
“We already have the tender documents prepared for the launch and we are awaiting authorization to launch the tender for contracting the projectthat we expect it to be launched in the coming weeks”, announced this Tuesday the vice president of IP, Carlos Fernandes.
In Caldas da Rainha, where the third modernization contract for the section of the West Line between Torres Vedras and Caldas da Rainha was signed this week, the company’s manager announced that the continuation of the contract, to the North, is one of the main investments of the Railroad 2030 programme, which represents a total investment of eight billion euros in the track and 1,700 million euros in rolling stock.
ONE “ambitious intervention” planned for the Caldas da Rainha-Louriçal section will allow, according to Carlos Fernandes, to increase the speed “for levels in the order of 160 kilometers/hourthe line of the line of systems prepared for the high speed speed in station in law with duplication project, the installation of two modern signaling systems, the intervention of several metallic bridges for the future to reinforce its load capacity”.
This will be the modernization of the third generation of the line, which currently has an ongoing global investment of euros, divided into two phases, two of which correspond to the electrification and modernization of the first project. and Torres Vedras, worth 61.5 million euros, and the second, the Caldas da Rainha-Torres Vedras section, worth 38.4 million euros, whose contract was awarded today.
With this update in progress”the Portuguese Government to compensate the Linha do Oeste in the trans-European transport network”announced the same official, adding that the proposal “has already been accepted by the European Commission” and is currently in the public consultation phase, and should later be voted on in Parliament.
With this inclusion “a responsibility is created for the country, which is the responsibility that the West Line will be a multioperable and electrified structure until 2050 loads, with an operational capacity of 2.5 tons and the circulation of goods with at least 750 meters”.

an IP “will pronounce quickly on the requestbut I believe it allows us to verify a solution that was created for us to solve the problem that was in this work and that we can quickly mobilize resources and arrive with an execution”, he said.
Linha do Oeste is a section along the roads that connects the Agualva-Cacém station, on the Sintra Line, to the Figueira da Foz station, whose modernization has been demanded for decades by populations and municipalities.
