Monaco: Atlético, the regret of Sidibé
Left free by AS Monaco, Djibril Sidibé (29 years old, 17 games in L1 this season) has regrets about his time in the Principality. After the title of champion of France in 2017, the side right had the opportunity to join Atlético Madrid. But the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement.
“Atletico and other clubs like Manchester City contacted my agent, told the French international to Oh My Goal. But where I wanted to go is Atlético. I needed to remove this label of counter-attacking player, I wanted to be a reference, a real defender. When you look at what Atlético is doing, I said to myself that I needed to take some ingredients there, to train myself well to be a beast in defense and let go more freely on the offensive aspect.”
“The discussions were complicated, I think there was a bit of greed from the club. But I don’t blame them, somewhere it allowed me to discover something else in my game, even if it was complicated afterwards. I was really frustrated because it was the best opportunity to broaden my palette. It was played at a few million. It took me a long time to digest the frustration”, said remembered the ancient Trojan.
