“The paramedics were busy with an urgent intervention at 00.50 am. Two patients had fallen with their step and needed. Our car was therefore completely next to the roadway,” says Walter Derieuw, the fire brigade. Not seeing the ambulance was barely possible.
The ambulance was hit from the rear during the intervention. As a result, it even moved a neat meter further. With consequences. “The two patients and one of our paramedics who were cane in the sanitary cabin were shaken vigorously. The second ambulance who wanted to get in was thrown outside and ended up under the ambulance,” says Derieuw. The four injured are taken to hospital by other ambulances.
Flight crime
Despite the major impact on the ambulance, the driver of the hit car drove on and committed a hit-and-run. “Thanks to the excellent work of the police of the Brussels North zone, the road pirate was quickly identified. But two of our firefighters who served the paramedics are incapacitated.”
