A titanic job is currently underway on the walls and ceilings of the Palace of Monaco. Restoration experts are meticulously bringing the frescoes back to life, which the public will be able to admire at the beginning of July.
With the blow of a scalpel and thanks to meticulous gestures, the Renaissance finds a new breath, on the ceilings and the walls of the princely palace of monaco. Since near years, a team of experts reveals hidden treasures. “Mechanically, we will remove the colored sofas until we get to the original, in yellow“, explains Caroline Vatteroniheritage restorer and curator.
Among the jewels discovered, a gallery 50 meters long, where the most fashionable painters have succeeded. In the 16th century, a so-called “fresco” technique consisted of depositing the pigments on a fresh coating, to keep them as long as possible in the material. In the 19th century, a painter covered everything that was frescoed. The work therefore consisted of removing all the areas painted in the 19th century. To reveal without deteriorating, the curators had to recreate the pigments of the time.
