Kaczynski believes that the introduction of NATO troops in Ukraine will not mark the beginning of the Third World War
Jaroslav Kaczynski, leader of Poland’s leading Law and Justice Party (PiS), believes the possible deployment of a NATO contingent in Ukraine could be peaceful and does not mark the start of World War III.
He said this in interview Polska Times, Ukrinform reports.
“Yet such an intervention (the introduction of NATO troops in Ukraine – ed.) Can be peaceful. I suggested this during my visit to Kyiv (March 15 – ed.), As it created the need to create a strategic alternative to Russian troops. Ukraine controls most of the territory, and NATO units can join the request of the Ukrainian authorities, “Kaczynski said, adding that the proposal was voiced at a time when the Russian military was trying to capture Kyiv.
At the same time, the politician pointed out that the former commander of NATO forces in Europe, General Wesley Clark, also spoke about the possibility of sending Allied troops to Ukraine.
“I do not think it is a solution. However, of course, it deserves serious consideration and should not end with the Third World War at all, ”Kaczynski stressed.
The leader of Poland’s ruling party also noted that the armed conflict, which had been going on since 2014 and seemed to weaken Ukraine for many years, and “turned out to have strengthened it.”
At the same time, the politician in an interview criticized Hungary for its position on Ukraine, expressing regret that after the parliamentary elections, Budapest’s position on Ukraine and Russia has not changed. At the same time, Kaczynski noted that Hungary supported the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, and therefore is not a “real ally of Moscow.”
“However, the fact is that we now live in a world where we need to be decisive and unequivocal, not neutral. Neutrality is not enough today, “he said.
He said that during a joint visit to Kyiv by the Prime Ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia on March 15, the then Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland for Security Affairs Jaroslav Kaczynski voiced the idea of introducing a NATO peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine.
