Investigation in Sweden related to the YPG / PKK terrorist group is terminated due to “lack of evidence”
STOCKHOLM
Sweden ended the investigation on Friday on posts on social media that showed pictures of the YPG / PKK terrorist organization’s so-called flag and its convicted main leader, Abdullah Öcalan, which was projected on public buildings in the capital.
According to state radio, the police claimed that there was no evidence to proceed with the investigation.
Last week, social media accounts linked to the PKK, and its Syrian offshoot YPG, shared images showing the organization’s so-called flag and its leaders’ image projected on the historic City Hall and Globen Avicii Arena Sports Hall.
Following reactions from Turkey’s ambassador to Sweden Hakki Emre Yunt and others on the terrorists’ propaganda activities, the municipality of Stockholm had submitted a criminal report.
Sweden and Finland formally applied to join NATO last month, a decision spurred on by Russia’s war on Ukraine, which began on 24 February.
But Türkiye, a longtime member of the alliance, has raised objections to membership offers and criticized the countries for tolerating and even supporting terrorist groups.
In its more than 35-year-old terrorist campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people.
