Siena, Gasconi’s point on the economy: “Businesses are suffering but now they must dare to answer”
“Businesses suffer, but they are destined to have to dare to answer because it is the market that asks for them”. For the president of the Chamber of Commerce Massimo Guasconi, the Sienese economy is experiencing this phase.
Unfortunately, there are still many unknowns, but the signs coming from the first months of 2022 are so far positive. Our territory exports weighs 803 million euros, equal to 6.5% of Tuscan exports, and grows by over 20 percentage points compared to a year ago. Data that for Guasconi are “significant” especially as regards the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, wine and leather goods sectors: sectors that he explains, “demonstrate our quality and our competitiveness”.
The question mark appears, however, when it comes to the future, with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and the climate and food crises that the economy could bring to the boat in a phase where the Sienese is traveling at full speed. For this reason, the Guasconi organization is at the forefront of supporting Sienese companies, in order to “maintain high international performance”.
Then there is another area where the Chamber is called to intervene: that of the search for manpower. “At the moment it is difficult to find – says the president – but it is used for sectors such as construction and Horeca. This is why we aim to direct young people to these sectors “.
As for agriculture, which suffers from drought, “our job is to direct companies to the regional structures closest to a sector like this”
