Private jet pilot bursts collar at Zurich Airport
Because of a three minute delay
Private jet pilot bursts his collar at Zurich Airport
A private jet could only take off from Zurich Airport three minutes late due to a routine procedure. But that didn’t sit well with the pilot. He vented his anger over the radio.

Anyone who travels by plane knows the situation: The plane is on the runway, but only took off after a few minutes. The reason for this is the organization of the air traffic controllers. A private jet also had to wait a few minutes in Zurich on Wednesday afternoon. But that was too much for the pilot.
In a repeated conversation he explained: «Before it was said, after the Vistajet. Now you take one plane after the other in the front. It’s getting really sad.” The air traffic controller then replied: “I can’t remember ever saying when it was your turn. I said ‘a few minutes delay’.” (German: «a few minutes late»)
“It’s just sad”
However, the private jet pilot was not satisfied with that. “No, but the apron said we’ll try then,” he protests. Apron air traffic controllers are responsible for organization on the tarmac. At this point, however, the pilot is already radioing with a Skyguide air traffic controller. These issue the effective take-off permission.
Still angry about the delay, the pilot explained: “Meanwhile, five planes have left, Apron said after the Vistajet. Now Air Portugal is in – it’s just sad.” The air traffic controller replied: «You are welcome to complain to Apron, the frequency does not make Apron. They also don’t know what we’ll make of it afterwards. We make sure that the ‘average delay’ is the smallest.”
Certain planes are preferred
At Blick’s request, Skyguide explained to the masses of the incident: “The business jet is ready and waiting for permission to take off. Apron’s controllers have already announced a launch slot. However, apron is responsible for the organization on the runway. The skyguide air traffic controllers issue the effective take-off clearance.»
At the waiting point, several aircraft are in the holding pattern. According to Skyguide, the take-offs of some planes are brought forward for reasons of efficiency or slot allocation. That was also the case here. As a result, the business jet was able to take off “a maximum of two to three minutes later than specified by Apron”. (obf)
