On Tuesday, the deputies agreed to rename it and asked the topography commission to recommend it to the city council for approval. The resolution also includes a request that, after approval by the Council, the change of name should take place only after a three-month delay, due to the necessary administrative actions by various state organizations.
Some representatives of the opposition did not like the administrative burden for the inhabitants. “There are a lot of different sub-tasks that people will have to do, leading to a huge waste of time,” said Deputy David Tacl (YES).

According to him, his colleague from the YES movement Filip Brückner pointed out the inappropriate timing of the move with regard to inflation. “People today have other problems, rather existential, not so symbolic,” he said.
Survey
In recent months, the city district has been following a survey among street residents and all Praguers regarding their views on the name change. The town hall addressed 4983 people, of whom 3689 received the registered letter.
944 people responded and 71 percent of them opposed the renaming. “I was a little disappointed by the participation, I expected more people to vote,” said Councilor Pavel Křeček (STAN), who submitted the proposal to the deputies.
He added that if the capital was approved, people would have to go to the office only because of an identity card and car owners and a small technical card. According to him, the official will be expanded in both hours.

In the case of state organizations such as health insurance companies, social security administrations, financial administrations and the like, the negotiations showed that changes in the system should occur automatically. According to the councilor, this is what the three-month postponement that the deputies are asking of the city to serve.
Previous renaming efforts
Already in 2019, the Prague 3 City Council discussed a petition requesting the renaming of the street after Maria Theresa. At that time, the deputies only commissioned a comprehensive analysis of the historical role of Marshal Ivan Konev, which subsequently emerged.
Last year, the town hall had tables installed in the street explaining the actions of the Soviet military leader. “As a result of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, there has been an increase in the number of complaints from citizens and associations,” Křeček added.

The street has been called Koněvova since 1947, before that in the first post-war year it was briefly called Poděbradova and before that between 1939 and 1945 Brněnská. Konev (1897 to 1973) was a Russian military leader and Soviet marshal.
At the end of the Second World War, Prague, parts of Poland, Silesia and Saxony were threatened with liberation. He also led the bloody suppression of the uprising in Hungary and worked in Berlin during the construction of the Berlin Wall, which has caused controversy in Prague in recent years.
The management of Prague 6 had the marshal’s statue removed from Interbrigade Square in Bubeneč last April. Against were the Russian embassy, communists or various pro-Russian associations and activists. In May this year, Prague’s deputies took away Konev’s honorary citizenship.
Prague has also recently renamed part of Korunovační Street near the Russian Embassy in Prague 6 to Ukrainian Heroes in connection with the current war in Ukraine.
