A shared collective ambition to make the Cité an even livelier place open to all.
The International City of Gastronomy and Wine of Dijon opened its doors to the public on May 10th. In a little over a month, it welcomed 50,000 visitors (excluding the inaugural weekend of May 6, 7 and 8, when more than 18,000 visitors were able to discover this exceptional tourist and cultural site). Attendance at cultural spaces, between exhibitions and visits to 1204, averages 4,000 visitors per week.
If the International City of Gastronomy and Wine of Dijon is positioned nationally and internationally as the new destination for the French art of living, at the crossroads of the two UNESCO recognitions, that of the Gastronomic Meal of the French and that of the Climats of Burgundy, it is above all a place of life open to all. A district with free and open access, the Cité allows everyone to choose their activity or activities. Simple stroll, cultural visit, lunch, introduction to tasting, discovery of local products, children’s workshops, there is something for everyone and for all ages.
The City of Dijon and all the players in the City intend to offer free or paid entertainment each season, allowing visitors to take advantage of ever-changing activities within the district. This is the charm and one of the great strengths of the International City of Gastronomy and Wine: it operates like a city in the heart of the City, a small open-air city, on the principle of completely free access to the within a 3-hectare heritage jewel which has been returned to the people of Dijon and which has already seduced tourists from all over the world.
No need to spend a cent to enjoy a concert in the heart of the village of food trades or to discover or make discover nearby the small Holy Cross chapel of Jerusalem and the 500 m2 of scenographic spaces of 1204 dedicated to the fascinating urban history of Dijon.
La Cité is also the common will of all its players – the City of Dijon, the Gastronomic Village and its experiential cuisine, the Cellar and the tables of the Cité, the Pathé Cinema, the Burgundy Wine School, the ‘École Ferrandi Paris, the Dijon Métropole Tourist Office – to build a strategy of permanent entertainment for young and old.
With its program of workshops, festive events and other masterclasses, the Cité offers you a large number of meetings and experiences, to be combined or not with the visit of the 4 exhibition pavilions “At the table of the French », of which the Chapel of Climates and Terroirs is the high point. Gourmet shopping, introduction to oenology, meetings with winegrowers, chef masterclasses, cooking and cocktail workshops, event menus, treasure hunts, film previews, festivals… Every day, there’s something for everyone and all desires. This is also the objective of this first summer program: to make people want to come and return to the Cité. Every summer, there will always be something happening at the Cité!
