#Togetherforthe SDGs. Activities at the University of Siena for the Sienese stage of the campaign on sustainable development – June 17, 2022
SIENA – It continues on June 17 with the events dedicated to sustainability projects at the University and all’meeting with economist Jeffrey Sachs the #InsiemepergliSDG campaign, organized locally by the University of Siena and the Municipality of Siena and promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with partners FAO, UN SDG Action Campaign, Save The Children, CIHEAM Bari and the European Commission.
The campaign aims to promote awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015, as an implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Give her 9.30 am it will be possible to participate in the numerous activities proposed in the interactive installation #Togetherforthe SDGs, set up in Piazza San Francesco. Inside the structure it will be possible to get information and take part in the proposed activities to sensitize visitors on the sustainable development goals and on the role that each individual can play in achieving them. Volunteers, including university students, will be present to provide information and gadgets.
At the same time, i workshops with Save The Children. This is another moment dedicated to raising awareness among citizens, and especially of the little ones, on the issues of sustainable development with particular regard to food security. Almost thirty students take part in the awareness raising initiative, after a period of training supervised by the same international organization.
At 12.30 instead, theinaugurationat the Santa Chiara Lab, del Hydroponic laboratorya unique and innovative indoor farming project launched by the University of Siena in collaboration with the Ministry of University and Research.
The inauguration will be held at the headquarters of the center in via Valdimontone 1 in Siena. They will be present on Rector Francesco Frati, Marcella Garganodirector of the Ministry of University and Research, the professor Angelo Riccabonipresident of the Santa Chiara Laboratory of the University of Siena, the professor Giampiero CaiBotanical Garden – University of Siena and the designers of the structure.
The day dedicated to the university initiatives of the #insiemepergliSDG campaign will continue the initiatives 15.00in the courtyard of the Rectorate building (Banchi di Sotto 55), with the presentation of the sustainability projects of the University of Siena and the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation.
After the institutional greetings, which will be attended by academics and institutions, including the Rector Francesco FratiThe FMPS president Carlo RossiAnd Stefano Gatti min. plen. Special correspondent for food safety, sustainability projects will be presented in agile pitches.
There will be three sessions; the first will illustrate the university’s research projects: Blue Deal med, Fish4Fish, Plastic Busters, Siena Bioactive, Santa Chiara Next, Progetto Pope, Eusteps.
The second part will be dedicated to the projects of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation: Siena FoodLab, Siena 2030, Scool Food, Siena Carbon Neutral.
While in the third the projects on teaching and services will be illustrated: Elce 4SD-EuropeDirect, Economics for the Environment and Sustainability course, Sustainable Industrial Pharmaceutical Biotechnology course, Service of good practices for sustainable development, Single Guarantee Committee, International School on Sustainable Development.
At 17.00always in the courtyard of the Rectorate, the panel “The sustainability of agri-food systems”. They will talk about it Angelo Riccaboni president of Santa Chiara Lab, Carlo Rossi FMPS president, Diana Lenzi Ceja Young Farmers, Stefano Gatti min. plen. Special Envoy for Food Safety, Simone Solfanelli by Coldiretti, Federico Taddei of the Italian Confederation of Farmers, Gianluca Cavicchioli of Confagricoltura, Flavia Maggi of Siena Food Lab. The event will be moderated by Pino di BlasioChief Editor QN.
At 18.30 also in the courtyard of the Rectorate building is foreseen lesson, In presence and open to the public,economist Jeffrey SachsDirector of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University.
The intervention closes the training week of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development, dedicated this year to decarbonization, which is starting in these days at the Santa Chiara Lab, and in which the scholar Sachs, leader of sustainable development, took.
Jeffrey Sachsthe following day (18 June) on the occasion of Graduation Day, the graduation party of the University of Siena, the Honorary Degree in Economics for the Environment and Sustainability.

The initiatives of the University of Siena for the June 17 stage of the #insiemepergliSDG campaign will continue, at 8.00 pm in the crypt of the San Francesco headquarters, with the Alumni award ceremony, dedicated to celebrating the excellent graduates, senior and junior, of the University of Siena. The award ceremony will be held during the convivial moment of the meeting of the USiena Alumni Association.
At the loggias della Mercanzia (via di Città 2) from 9.00 pm to 11.00 pm the screening of the suggestive videomappig will continue dedicated to the #insiemepergli SDG campaign, which is enjoying great success.
The campaign initiatives were organized by the Municipality and the University with the collaboration of Save The Children, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO, Action Campaign, CIHEAM Bari; in collaboration with the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation and the Chigiana Academy.
