Prague will commission the winners of the competition to prepare a project for the Vltava Philharmonic
Prague – Prague will commission the Danish studio Bjarke Ingels Group, which succeeded in an international architectural competition, to develop a project for the planned philharmonic at the Vltavská metro station. The deputies decided on it tonight. The preparation of project documentation according to the previous millions of information will cost 780 crowns. According to estimates, the construction itself will cost CZK 9.4 billion, compared to the original current estimate of CZK 4.9 billion. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2032.
The city evaluated the competition at the end of May. 115 teams entered it, 15 advanced to the finals and five others invited the city itself to develop the proposal. In the future, the new building will house the Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Symphony Orchestra. m of Prague FOK or the music department of the Municipal Library in Prague. The building is to become a cultural center, which will also offer cafes, restaurants, a city park or access to the river.
According to the approved document, the increased price compared to the estimate from last January is due to an increase in the price of construction work and materials, the original selected design or an increase in the floor area by 15 percent. In addition to construction costs, the city also estimates that it will have to invest another 2.9 billion crowns without VAT in other interventions in the vicinity of Vltavská, such as modifications to the waterfront, metro vestibule or transport solutions. According to the document, the estimate will be further refined as project preparation continues.
At the same time, the municipality is trying to co-finance the construction with the state, because according to an earlier statement, the management of the city of Prague did not pay for the construction. It is also considering the involvement of private investors. According to earlier statements, the city wants to divide funding into thirds between the city, the state and the private sector.
The Vltava Philharmonic should have three halls – a concert hall for 1,800 spectators, a smaller one for chamber music with a capacity of 500 seats and a multifunctional one for other genres and types of events with a capacity of up to 700 people. The construction of a new cultural center is part of the transformation of the Bubny-Zátory locality, where a district for up to 25,000 people is planned.
