Is there or is there a link between the EU’s accession to the Republic of Moldova and the union with Romania? This question was answered by several political figures from the Republic of Moldova.
At the moment, we should not “mix” the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and the union with Romania, says the PAS deputy, Adrian Baluțel.
Contrary to the PAS deputy, ex-deputy Vitalia Pavlicenco says that the union with Romania is “the method by which we can access the European Union” faster. Statements were made during the June 17 edition of the show “Ask the Ice” from TV8.
And the former deputy, Ecaterina Mardarovici, is of the opinion that “we have real chances to obtain this candidate status, only that this means an additional commitment and conditions for which the Republic of Moldova is to fulfill them”.
“For me, EU integration means union with Romania”
“It is a truly historic event, it is the hope of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. From my point of view, it is sad that this event is happening in some historical conditions and sadder events around us, but it is what I wanted and I am optimistic. For me, EU integration means union with Romania and this is the solution I see for union “, Mardarovici underlined.
Deputy Adrian Baluțel PAS mentioned: “Let’s not mix them until …”
“This decision is a historic one, because in addition to the recommendations to give Moldova a candidate status for accession, the Commission’s recommendation recognizes the perspective of the EU Member State for the Republic of Moldova.
And this is very important. It is the first official document of the EU, of the European Commission, which recognizes the prospect of EU membership in the future, if steps are to be taken.
Now, I’m pretty optimistic about next week’s summit. There is also enormous political pressure on the leaders of the European Union to open the doors for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in particular, of these countries in the community of free world countries, not just the EU.
Now, we look beyond political and economic union, but we look at the divide between the free and the less free world. For us, European integration is a process of transforming the country, of implementing better standards, of raising living standards and we are very optimistic in this regard “, added Baluțel.
Former deputy Vitalia Pavlicenco contradicts Adrian Baluțel
According to him, the Republic of Moldova can join the European Union the fastest, if it unites with Romania. Otherwise, we will have to wait a long time to integrate into the EU.
“The idea and the statement that we do not confuse these two things: union and integration, is wrong, because European integration is an absolutely clear vector of advancing our societies through reform, respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, rule of law institutions, access to a security system, let’s not forget NATO. But that is a goal, and what has happened now with recent visits by Western leaders, and this recommendation from the European Commission, is a kind of confirmation, a nail-biting, a vector and a goal setting.
Union is the shortest way to reach this vector. Nobody wants the Republic of Moldova to wait for EU membership like Turkey, 29 years old. And if we don’t even see what the current leaders are saying, I have in mind the leadership, Igor Grosu, for example, who said it will be about 10-12 years, I think there may be more, “said Pavlicenco.
Both European integration and union with Romania could upset the Russian Federation, she said.
