Dolní Břežany (near Prague) / Prague – The last farewell to the Vice-Chairman of STAN and the long-time mayor of Dolní Břežany, Věslav Michalik, will take place next week on Thursday at the U Salvátora Church in Prague. The Central Bohemian Governor Petra Pecková (STAN) told ČTK today and the municipality of Dolní Břežany also informs about it at web. Michalik, who was Pecková’s deputy for finance, died suddenly on Sunday, he was 59 years old. According to the family, the cause of death was heart failure.
“The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 1:00 pm in the evangelical church U Salvátora, at Salvátorská 1, Prague 1. Věšek died suddenly on Sunday, June 12, in the afternoon due to heart failure. Please give Věšek a memory, he had you and our village really likes it. I will never stop being proud of it, “said wife Hana Michaliková on the village’s website.
The municipality and the regional office have issued condolence books in which people can express their condolences to death. The county also established a place of reverence with flowers and candles and hoisted a black flag on the building.
It is not yet clear who could replace Michalik in his position. Dolní Břežany should be run by deputy mayors until the September elections.
Michalik was born on March 1, 1963 in Český Těšín. He graduated from the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where in 1992 he also obtained the title of Candidate of Sciences. He completed his economic education at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the USA. Břežany has been the mayor of Dolní since 200. He became vice-chairman last year.
From 1986 to 1996, Michalik worked as a researcher at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic at the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Institute of Radiation Dosimetry. Since 2002, he has been engaged in investment consulting.
In 2012, he was elected a representative of the Central Bohemian Region, from 2016 to 2017 he was a regional councilor for economic and regional development, including European funds and rural development. In November 2020, he became the Deputy Governor of Central Bohemia for Finance, Subsidies and Innovation. After last year’s parliamentary elections, Michalik was originally to become the Ministry of Industry and Trade, but the nomination is delayed due to doubts about previous business and possible conflicts of interest. However, he said that his former business in Cyprus was in accordance with the law.
Dolní Břežany has long aroused the interest of the architectural community, and Michalik’s work created a unique laser research center and a new sports hall and other buildings. In the past, the village located in the rings around Prague emphasized civic amenities, which led to the project of a new square, the construction of shops, restaurants, a bank and a medical house.
