4500 walkers are the first to see the renovated City Hall during CM Urban Walk Antwerp
On Sunday 19 June, the CM Urban Walk will take an 11 km walk along and through 14 special locations in Antwerp. 4500 participants registered themselves. Hot City Hall swings open its doors especially for them on Sunday. The participants in the new hospital ZNA Cadix. You can register online for this unique walking event, which also has a culinary twist, until Saturday.
The start and finish of the CM Urban Walk are located in the City Park. The travelers in waves between 8.30 am and 11.30 am. During their tour they walk along and through Central Station, the City Hall, Het Steen, the Leienpaleis and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
After a thorough renovation of four years, the Antwerp City Hall opens its doors again. One day after the official opening, participants in the CM Urban Walk Antwerp will have exclusive access to this beautiful 16th-century Renaissance building. Another first for the CM Urban Walk Antwerp: the new hospital ZNA Cadix. The hospital will not open until March 2023, but those who walk along on Sunday will already receive an exclusive preview. With 361 approved beds, ZNA Cadix will become the largest hospital within the Antwerp ring road. Moreover, at 88 meters it is the fourth tallest building in the city.
In addition, the passage about the Groenplaats also has to become special. There is a mobile stand for 1,700 basketball fans. After all, from 21 to 26 June, the FIBA 3×3 World Cup, the World Cup of the wildly popular 3×3 basketball, will take place on this famous Antwerp square. The participants in the CM Urban Walk Antwerp can show their dribbling skills and walk across the playing field.
“Through the CM Urban Walks you can discover cities in a sporty, yet accessible way. In this way we hope to get some people moving again in a pleasant way,” says Steven Hermans, director of business development and innovation at CM Gezondheidsfonds.
Antwerp tastings
The CM Urban Walk Antwerp gives walkers a taste of ‘t Stad on Sunday not only figuratively, but also literally. Everyone will be treated to a tasty portion of Arla Skyr on the Napoleonkaai and along the way participants will be able to taste typical Antwerp products such as Elixir d’Anvers and Antwerp Hands.
Antwerp alderman for Sport Peter Wouters: “The CM Urban Walk fits in perfectly with Sporting A’s marching direction many years ago. With the happy return of this collective health walk, 4,500 sports enthusiasts have the opportunity to test their walking legs and give their eyes a good run through the city center and a dozen special locations, which should provide extra fuel for the eye.”
The CM Urban Walk Antwerp is the second appointment in the CM Urban Walk Series. Hasselt was allowed to kick off on 22 May. Three more cities will follow in the autumn, Kortrijk (September 18), Diest (November 6) and Ghent (December 4). Online registration for the CM Urban Walk Antwerp is still possible until Saturday 18 June.
