Food prices are rising much faster both in Sweden and in Denmark than in Norway.
– Prices abroad rise to Norwegian level. Prices for milk are now approximately at the Norwegian level in both Denmark and Sweden, says Christian Anton Smedshaug, general manager of Agri Analyze, to Nettavisen.
The Swedish consumer price index shows that the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages has increased by 8.8 percent in the last 12 months, according to new figures from The statistical authority. The highest price growth has been in Denmark, with over ten percent last year, according to Denmark’s statistics fresh high.

Christian Anton Smedshaug believes that Norwegian agricultural policy is the reason why Norwegian prices are significantly lower than Swedish and Danish prices.
– Norwegian production is protected through customs protection, and we have therefore had higher prices for some goods than the average in other countries. But we have a stability and land does not have, to ensure stable profitability of the farmer. That is why we are protected against large fluctuations, and it is to our advantage when prices abroad rise, he explains.
