The poll about renaming Koněv’s place was not interesting. Whoever spoke is more against it
The issue will now be discussed by the city council, and the renaming would ultimately be decided by the municipality’s management in the event of a positive opinion.
“I consider the data on participation in the survey to be the data with the greatest informative value. Although the topic of renaming Koněvova Street to Hartigova seemed to be of great interest on social networks and that there is a large part of the street’s population who oppose it, a survey has shown that it is probably not a significant issue for most locals themselves, “said the councilor. Prague 3 Pavel Křeček (STAN).
He added that even in the case of establishments, only 42 of the addressed 262 were served.
The town hall also organized an online survey for people who live, work or study in Prague 3. In ten days, 2,273 people voted in it, of which 63 percent voted for renaming.
Křeček added that he managed to negotiate with the authorities that in the case of renaming by exchanging ID cards and technical cards with car owners, it was free. “Another important news is that the vast majority of actions were done without the personal participation of citizens,” he added.
Representatives of the city district will discuss the renaming on Tuesday, June 21. If the deputies vote in favor, the town hall will send its positive opinion to the magistrate topography commission, which has already agreed to the renaming. Finally, the town councilors decide on the naming of Prague’s streets and public spaces on the basis of the commission’s recommendations.
Marshal Ivan Stepanovich Konev (1897 to 1973) was a Russian military leader and Soviet marshal. At the end of the Second World War, Prague, parts of Poland, Silesia and Saxony were threatened with liberation. He also led the bloody suppression of the uprising in Hungary and worked in Berlin during the construction of the Berlin Wall.
The management of Prague 6 had the marshal’s statue removed from Interbrigade Square in Bubeneč last April. Against were the Russian embassy, communists or various pro-Russian associations and activists. In May this year, Prague’s deputies took away Konev’s honorary citizenship. Prague has also recently renamed part of Korunovační Street near the Russian Embassy in Prague 6 to Ukrainian Heroes in connection with the current war in Ukraine.
