Erling Braut Haaland scored national team goals number 19 and 20 against Sweden. In addition, he set up the third goal with Alexander Sørloth headed in 3-1.
National team manager Ståle Solbakken says that Haaland played a slightly different role against Sweden than in the last national matches.
– We made a small adjustment, so he had to work more defensively. We beat up the other inner runner so it became a kind of 4-4-2, so he had to bump more on the other stopper. He did a lot of bras. He is a good team player today, says the former FC Copenhagen coach to TV 2.
Solbakken was in on the same thing at the press conference when he was asked about the efforts of his biggest star in Sunday’s 3-2 victory against Sweden.
– What I am most happy about is that we went a little higher with one inner runner to put more pressure in 4-4-2. It gave more defensive work so that Sweden would not build up games, and there I am happy with Erling.
National team captain Martin Ødegaard praises Haaland for the work he put in.
– There is not much more to say, what he does today speaks for itself. For goals and one assist and that job he also puts down. He does the shit job for the team too, and that says a lot about him. He is completely raw, he says to TV 2.
Northug pays tribute to Haaland: – The baton has been delivered on
After missing several good opportunities with his head in the goalless showdown against Slovenia on Thursday, Haaland stabbed in 1-0 against Sweden.
– He scored a nice goal with his head. He had three or four chances against Slovenia, where he could at least score one. He is, of course, our biggest match winner. He also served one for Alex, says Solbakken.
Haaland was handed the Martin Ødegaard captain’s armband.
– He is probably a type of leader first and foremost because he is a very good football player. Then he has a status that the whole globe looks up to, and that helps, Solbakken smiles.
