ROSA will open a cross center for women in Prague 2

Prague – The non-profit organization ROSA will open a crisis center in Prague 2 for women at risk of domestic violence. There will be an equipped apartment for crisis situations and the background of crisis telephone lines. It will now operate on 800 605 080 in all-day mode. There are ten beds in the accommodation facility, which was provided by the organization of the town hall of the second part of the city. ROSA director Marie Vavroňová and representatives of Prague 2 announced this to the press today.
“Not only in Prague, but also in the whole Czech Republic, there is a long-term shortage of specialized and crisis services for people at risk of domestic and sexual violence. We are therefore glad that we received an apartment from Prague 2 for crisis assistance,” said Vavroňová.
Women will be able to stay in the crisis apartment, which has about 150 square meters, for up to seven days. According to the head of crisis assistance at ROSA, Branislava Marvánová Vargová, the time period is set by law. They will provide crisis assistance to clients of the organization’s employees on an all-day basis. Accommodation services in a crisis apartment in Prague 2 will be available to childless women and women with children.
From Wednesday, June 15, telephone crisis lines for women experiencing violence will also be expanded. It will now be in operation at night. The line operates at 800 605 080 and calls to you are free. The line with this number was founded by ROSA last September, now the organization wants to promote it more. The organization’s telephone lines have so far recorded 52,500 callers, Vavroňová said.
The Mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija (ODS) and the Councilor of Prague 2 and MP Michal Zuna (TOP 09), agreed that domestic violence should be described as “absolutely unacceptable” and that its victims should be assisted. Representatives of Prague 2 stated that safety is a priority for the town hall management. Therefore, Prague 2 has already set aside the first apartment in Prague 2 for an organization that helps women struggling with domestic violence. The apartment with four beds has been available since September last year.
The organization’s director added that during the years when people were mostly at home due to restrictions and government regulations related to the covid-19 pandemic, the number of cases of domestic violence increased by about 20 percent compared to previous years.
ROSA Association – Center for Women has been operating for 29 years. So far, 17,150 women have used the services of the counseling center of this non-profit organization. The asylum house run by the organization has been used by 452 women with 563 children in the 24 years of its operation.
