Prague will start preparing a tram route from Podbaba to Suchdol
The city is also preparing a change in the zoning plan of the area, it should be built there. According to the mayor’s deputy Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě), the track will not start building until four or five years later.
According to the approved document, the establishment of the line is crucial due to better transport connections of the Czech University of Life Sciences (CULS), where only buses that are often overcrowded and unreliable due to heavy car traffic now run. According to the city, the new line should also relieve traffic on Vítězné náměstí in Dejvice, where buses now end.
“The tram line will make it possible to provide the target transport service in the development area of Nový Sedlec on its route to Suchdol, which would not even be possible otherwise. In the footsteps of Podbabská and Roztocká streets, independent track management is assumed on separate bodies, ensuring reliability and regularity of traffic, ”the document states. According to him, the city is also considering building a P + R car park in Suchdol at the end of the line.
“It ranks among the three most popular tram lines. They will also be of great importance to students in coordination with the construction of the tram line from Malovanka in Strahov, “said Scheinherr after the council meeting. He added that the project is at the beginning and now it will be necessary to find a suitable route for the dormitories with regard to property rights in Nový Sedlec.
Nový Sedlec is the territory of the former municipality and the current cadastral territory of the capital Sedlec between the districts of Suchdol, Lysolaje and Prague 6. Based on a study of the area approved today by councilors, the city plans to change the zoning plan so that it can accommodate housing and further development.
The new tram line should be about five kilometers long and there are nine stops planned. “In terms of operational requirements, it assumes the operation of three daily tram lines – two standard and reinforcement lines on school days with a half-interval,” said the municipality. Councilors also demanded a DPP project to bring all levels of training to an authorized architect.
Prague is also preparing another tram line. The DPP recently opened a section of about a kilometer of tracks from the Barrandov Housing Estate to Holyně, which it plans to extend to Sliven in the future. Last year, the company completed the loop in Zahradní Město and the extension of the tracks from the Prague Uprising in Pankrác and some time ago built a new loop at the Depo Hostivař metro station and the line from Modřany to Libuše. In the summer, the city wants to start building a road to Dědina and also building a bridge between Dvorec and Zlíchov, which will be designed for trams, pedestrians and cyclists.
