Gorillas in the Prague Zoo are getting used to them in the new pavilion
After a successful move, the four gorillas get used to the new pavilion at the Prague Zoo. Kijivu, Kamba and Shinda females, together with a young male Ajab, have been inhabiting his indoor exhibits for several days.
“Gorillas are doing well, they manage the move better than expected. The air conditioning in the new environment took place so fast that the very next day after the move, the group was released from the background to the indoor exhibition, “ says Miroslav Bobek, the director of the Prague Zoo, with the proviso that when the gorillas get used to the indoor areas, the breeders will start releasing them into the outdoor enclosure. “Soon, in addition to the gorillas, the mantle guerrillas, which until recently inhabited the Monkey Islands at the bottom of the zoo.”
According to the head breeder Martin Vojáček, male gorillas, who still remain the original pavilion, are also getting used to the new arrangement. “Richard and his sons Nuru and Kiburi are also much calmer. From the day of migration they receive food, being Richard so far chooses only those attractive species. But that means we’re on the right track. After all, everything is going better than we ever hoped for. “ explains.
The relocated females and the six-year-old male will now continue to get used to their new home in peace. Several months will contribute to this, during which the pavilion will remain closed before the Prague Zoo will ceremoniously present it to the public on September 28 on the occasion of its annual celebration.
The fifteenth pavilion of the Prague Zoo will be the largest exhibition in its history. Visitors guided by the Cameroonian landscape: from the school and agricultural landscape on the edge of the village, to the dense rainforest full of vegetation, sounds and especially its animal inhabitants. Apart from gorillas and guerrillas, in which people meet vertebrates, brushes, aspen trees, waterfowl and small animals in the forest undergrowth – they all complete the palette of Central African fauna.
The guerezes mantle are testing the grass enclosure, the Brazz vertebrates are examining the indoor exhibition – the housing of the individual inhabitants of the new gorilla pavilion at the Prague Zoo is in full swing.
