Zurich Airport gives the all-clear: “Enough staff for the summer in action”
Almost 2 million people flew via Zurich Airport in May. The airport expects a further increase over the summer months. Personally, there is enough.
In May, the number of passengers quadrupled compared to the previous year, as announced by Zurich Airport on Monday. As early as April, Zurich Airport reported a fourfold increase in passenger numbers compared to 2021. However, compared to before the pandemic, Zurich Airport has not yet returned to the usual level. The number of passengers in May is around 70 percent compared to May 2019.
The number of take-offs and landings also increased in May. It was 150 percent more than in 2021 and corresponds to 80 percent from May 2019. The airport sees the current figures as the starting signal for busy summer months. A further increase in demand is expected, they say. “Many countries have lifted their pandemic-related travel restrictions, and the desire to travel is returning among passengers.”
Probably to counter recent reports on staff shortages at Swiss, the airport also writes that it is well prepared. “Basically, there are several staff deployed in order to be able to handle the expected flight volume.” Nevertheless, there can be waiting times during peak days, the airport continues. “We recommend being at the airport up to three hours before departure and taking good care of your journey.” (en)
