Budapest could get half a metro, with less destruction
There are alternatives to the non-sparse renovation of the trees and inhabitants of the Southern Roundabout, according to civilians, according to whom Dávid Vitézy is slipping into a dispute with the capital.
The politically charged debate over where freight trains should cross the Danube has resumed. Christmas Gergely The mayor announced on Thursday that the preparation of the new railway freight line bypassing Budapest means that the preparation of the V0 railway ring road bypassing the capital will begin.
They want to divert international transit traffic from the capital. This is due to the high noise and vibration load in Kelenföld and Ferencváros, because the most suitable connecting railway bridge for freight traffic in the west-east is currently being renovated and expanded in Budapest, next to the Rákóczi Bridge. Christmas – Imre László XI. with the support of the DK mayor of the district – did not stop:
The General Assembly also discussed whether the government would review whether the expansion of the capacity of the railway line connecting Ferencváros and Kelenföld was still justified and whether it would constitute an intervention in the densely populated urban area proportionate to the goals envisaged by the government.
About V0 in a nutshell
Sayings and faint plans have been circulating for years about whether and where the V0 bypassing Budapest will be built. The idea of a railway ring dreaming of Chinese money, bypassing Budapest, returned to the branch, we wrote a week ago. Then there was a great silence, and the expansion of the Southern Roundabout seemed to be in full swing. This is the main line that connects the Kelenföld and Ferencváros railway stations and is the busiest railway line in Hungary.
Due to the large number of freight trains passing here, there is little room for passenger trains, so in addition to the two tracks, a third has been planned by the Secretary of State for Transport Policy, Dávid Vitézy led by the Budapest Development Center (BFK). According to the current position, you can build for almost 338 billion forints Lőrinc Mészáros V-Híd Építő Zrt. The park of the Hamzsabégi road along the residents’ railway is afraid of the project, which would involve cutting down a thousand thousands of trees and construction over several years. However, the Association of Citizens on the Track for a Living Environment (POPE), critical of the project, claims
Earlier this year László Palkovics He said that the railway ring could be built using the expertise of the Russians, and in February he would make a proposal on the proposal of the Minister, on the basis of which a decision could be made on the final route. Meanwhile, on February 17, the Metropolitan Court definitively revoked the environmental permit for the Southern Roundabout because it did not provide a satisfactory answer to noise, bird and water protection issues. By April 12, the V0 route lane was completed, and it turned out that the section between Kecskemét and Adony would be built for the first time, which obviously includes a new railway bridge.
Vitézy: The management of Budapest is misunderstood
This is how we got to the point where Christmas allowed us to do so, the preparation of the V0 – which is already being prepared – is being formed, and the necessity of expanding the Southern Ring Road has also been questioned by the leadership of the capital. Dávid Vitézy also reacted to this:
I am sorry to say that, according to the decision of the General Assembly of Budapest, the management of Budapest completely misunderstands the V0 Budapest freight railway ring and the function of the Southern Circular Railway and confuses the two railway cases unnecessarily.
According to him, the aim of one project is to increase the capacity of freight transport and the other to increase the capacity of passenger transport. He provided support for the railway project for two years Christmas. According to Vitézy, freight trains can avoid Budapest through the V0, but in order to improve passenger transport, it is necessary to polish the Southern Circuit. Vitézy argues that during peak hours, passenger trains play a major role on the ring road, then there would not be many freight trains, if the V0 were ready, “we alone would not be able to reduce the load on the Southern Circuit so much as to substantially increase the number of suburban trains”.
The Secretary of State added that the government is continuing to prepare for the V0, which will play a key role in transporting freight trains from Lőkösháza (railway line 120), Záhonyi (100) and Kelebia-Belgrade (line 150) to Hegyeshalom, but Freight trains to the Adriatic could also use it. Vitézy concludes with his idea that the investment of the roundabout and the V0 should take place in parallel.
Civilians: Renovate the Roundabout, but more so
We also contacted two representatives of the association fighting the excessive expansion of the Southern Circuit. Sándor Péter Tóth the vice president said the capital’s decision is not about what Vitézy communicates. Tóth said their organization also wants to renovate the Southern Railway, “only in a different, less destructive form”. According to him, the repealed environmental impact study also expected an increase in freight traffic, but Vitézy does not mention this in his entry.
The project is being made poisonous by the monster-sized noise protection tunnel, which is necessary because “there is already huge noise pollution and vibration”. Moreover, according to him, with the construction of the wall, these values will remain above the limit value. Tóth admits that “part of the solution would be for the V0 to be built before the roundabout”, so that about 60 percent of the freight traffic (almost the entire transit) could be diverted there. Central traffic management, so digital and fast control of trains, would also be useful. This would allow more trains to run on the two tracks that already live. At the planned stops, there could be three tracks due to overtaking, but in any case, two would suffice.
Tamás Faragó environmental engineer, a member of the Popék, also added that the court decision to refuse the environmental permit required an alternative investigation for the investor, so it is not entirely true when Vitézy writes that the two railway developments are not alternatives to each other. interestingly feasibility study there was also a solution to build a third freight track on the Southern Roundabout in addition to the two passenger tracks. But this track could go miles south, according to Farago, for example, on the new V0 trail. Faragó says that at first, investors did not even have central, digital control (it was already included in a relevant government decision last December), although “it can work well if there are passenger trains”. In any case, Carver claims that if I did all this,
Budapest would receive half a metro line for suburban transport.
