Another lamppost in the middle of a bicycle path in Amsterdam South: “What a rotten place”
We saw it before this week: lampposts in the middle of the bicycle path in Buitenveldert. Now the counter is increasing, because a few blocks away there is another pole blocking the crossing for cyclists. “Wonderful”, says a passer-by.
“You’ll just cycle here to college and haven’t had your coffee yet,” one woman jokes. “Then you might be cycling full into it.” The cyclists think the pole is in the way: “It’s in a bad place”, and “It would be nice if it wasn’t there”, are the reactions.
Some cyclists don’t mind: “I’ll cycle around it. Although it can be dangerous, maybe. If you’re blind.”
The municipality is refurbishing the bicycle and pedestrian paths, resulting in a number of paths being widened and relocated. When asked why the lampposts are not removed before work is started on the road, a spoken answer: “This is being done by various parties and the planning/coordination has not gone optimally.”
For more than two weeks, all lampposts on the bicycle paths can be removed.
