ALL ANTWERP. “Belgium is the best country in the world in skipping rope” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Nomi Moris (23).
“I do skipping rope. I rolled into it a bit in 2009 because everyone at school is involved. And now they are still my best friends. You do, in small teams, big teams, … I also did not just competitions, but I was high flyer. I follow our motto: for fun† (laughs)† I will train at least three times a week, at Hipe Skip Merksem. You have different parts, such as single rope† double Dutch† chinese wheel, … The crazier the better. I’m a fan of speed jump, which is steps as fast as possible per 30 seconds. It’s intense at times, but you get used to it.”
“Belgium, by the way, is the best country in the world in skipping rope, but nobody really loses any sleep over that. If we were introduced to Belgium participating in European or world championships, the top three is the future for our country. From African countries to Australia, America, Canada, … Everyone participates, but Belgium is the best. And unfortunately, that hardly gets the attention. We have world records to our name. Our club also has one.”
“I am now gradually saying goodbye to the sport. Two years ago I broke my foot while preparing for a competition. Last year I wanted to give it another try and then I got corona just before … I saw it as a sign that it has been good. (laughs)† I now mainly teach, but it is still difficult to say goodbye.” coat
