Dijon is installing 5 new misting sites in its parks and gardens for the comfort and well-being of visitors during hot weather.
François REBSAMEN, Mayor of Dijon, President of Dijon Métropole, is represented by Nathalie KOENDERS, 1st Deputy Mayor in charge of ecological transition, climate and environment, public tranquility and general administration, and Antoine HOAREAU, deputy mayor in charge of solidarity, social action and the fight against poverty, at the inaugural time of the 5 new misting sites installed by the City of Dijon in its parks and gardens on Wednesday June 15, 2022, in 4:30 p.m., at the Darcy Garden.
Since 2021, 8 misting sites have been set up in various parks and gardens in Dijon, in order to allow visitors to cool off during intense weather episodes and to adapt the city to the effects of climate change: in the Jardin de l’ Arquebuse, at the Parc du Drapeau, along the promenade des Lochères, at the Parc des Carrières Bacquin, at the Parc des Argentières, at the port of the Canal, Place de la Darse as well as at the Parc de la Colombière, completing that of the place Granville .
In order to amplify this system, the City of Dijon is commissioning 5 new misting sites in June 2022: at Jardin Darcy, Parc Clémenceau, Square Paul Bert, Parc du Suzon and Parc Hyacinthe Vincent.
Since the preservation of water resources is at the heart of the community’s ecological transition project, particular attention has been paid to the water-saving nature of these devices: thanks to micro-droplets of water and air distributed in a homogeneous way , the fogger lowers the temperature and improves air quality. The resource is not wasted since it contributes to the hydration of the soil and the vegetation present in the parks and gardens. In addition, the distribution diameter of the buses has been reduced on all of the City’s 14 misting sites in order to halve water consumption.
The greenest city in France according to the 2020 Forbes barometer, Dijon has many places to cool off in periods of high heat since more than 825 hectares of nature in the city are available to residents, as well as 5 swimming pools, the nautical base of Lac Kir, the air-conditioned museums, and the various drinking water terminals.
The City of Dijon has decided, during very hot weather, to extend the opening hours of certain parks and gardens until midnight, in particular those with water points.
