The concert is said to have triggered an “earthquake”.
Dancing people in Berlin are said to have triggered earthquake-like vibrations. According to a media report, there were significant vibrations in several apartments around Tempelhofer Feld on Friday evening. Lamps swayed, furniture wobbled, crockery rattled, some of those affected shared on Twitter. As reported by t-online on Saturday, the earth shook for around a minute from 8:58 p.m. An expert confirmed the events to the portal.
Jens Skapski from “Erdbebennews” registered more calls from the south of Berlin on his site at the time in question. Witnesses to the tremors were apparently concerned and wanted to know what had happened. After hours of research, Skapski found out that between 8:58 p.m. and 8:59 p.m. privately operated seismographs in the area had provided clear signals. “The magnitude 1.4 tremors last too long to be natural in origin. Most likely they go back to a concert,” Skapski told t-online.
Jumping people probably trigger vibrations
In fact, it turned out that something happened at the Tempelhof Sounds festival that could have triggered the tremors. Bands such as “Balthazar”, Pete Doherty’s “Liebertines” and “Florence + The Machine” played there on the first evening of the event. The expert assumes that the main act “Florence + The Machine”, dancing people and the soft ground on the Tempelhofer Feld are responsible for the unnatural vibrations.
A Twitter user who appeared to be at the concert confirmed: “Around 9pm there was a moment where quite a few people jumped at the same time. You could also feel the tremors on site.” A comparison with the program published on the Internet shows: When the tremors happened, the song “Dog days” must have been played. With this song, frontwoman Florence Welch likes to make the audience jump, as a recording from a fine festival shows.
