He cooperates with traditional Czech companies in the renovation of the historical elements of the Prague Industrial Palace. In addition to saving glass stained glass, it is also time to restore the tower clock. Their restoration is ensured by the renowned family company L. Hainz with a tradition dating back to 1836. Among other things, the company takes care of hundreds of hours in public buildings in Prague and throughout the Czech Republic.
“I consider it essential that small Czech companies maintaining the quality and tradition of original crafts participate in saving the historical value of the Industrial Palace. The very hours of L. Hainz’s storytelling family are fascinating. Thanks to their kumšt, the dulcimers in the clock tower will sound again at the Exhibition Grounds, the surrounding sound is an inseparable part of the color of the Prague Exhibition Grounds, “comments Pavel Vyhnánek, Deputy Mayor of Prague. m of Prague for finance and budget, which is in charge of the Prague Exhibition Grounds.
The demanding reconstruction of the Industrial Palace has been going on for several months, and now it’s time for hours. They are part of the central tower – the dominants of the whole palace. In cooperation with the climbers, the dials, hands, bell dulcimers and the clockwork itself were gradually removed. The whole hours weighed about 450 kilograms and due to their uninstallation a part of the tower floor had to be dismantled. All components were transported to the workshop of the Czech family company L. Hainz, which was founded in 1836 in Holešovice, Prague.
The capital is very careful to ensure that the repair of the clockwork is carried out with maximum emphasis on restoration. The main part of the mechanism – the clockwork – received a blue-green paint in 1952. The watchmakers helped them paint it with the original brown hammer paint. During the reconstruction in the fifties, the glazed dials were changed. The dials on the tower of the Industrial Palace have a diameter of about 2.7 meters and are among the largest dials in Prague.

L. Hainz’s company will return to them in their original form in tin form with golden Roman numerals. The company restored and painted the original hand machines. The original, time- and weather-damaged hands are exchanged for new ones, complete with wrought lilies to bring the ladies to the dials. The two historic bell dulcimers, which strike every quarter of an hour and an hour, together weigh 360 kg and, for perfect cleaning, go through a five-day bath in citric acid. However, they do not receive any surface treatment to maintain the cleanest possible sound, which thus spreads better across the material.

L. Hainz will restore the clock for approximately two to three months, after which it will wait to be replanted after all work on the tower has been completed. Turning the clock back to its original position above the narrow spiral staircase will be a daunting operation. Therefore, in addition to the two climbers, the entire L. Hainz company, which has six people, will be involved.
The company is the only one in the Czech Republic engaged in the production and maintenance of mechanical tower clocks and has taken care of tower clock machines, including dials, throughout the country for seven generations. In Prague alone, it has another 80 tower machines under its administration, including a clock at the Church of St. St. Vitus or the Church of St. Ludmila on Peace Square. The city’s wish is to repair a clockwork weighing 450 kilograms with maximum emphasis on restoration.
The owner of the company, Mariana Nesnídalová, who is the heiress of the family business with a tradition of almost one hundred and ninety, oversees the entire process of restoration and the final installation of the clocks. “During the restoration of tower machines, such as these from the Industrial Palace, our priority is to keep as many original parts as possible. We always choose the restoration variant, if the machine of course allows it. We change parts if they are already very worn and are not really another way out. For the clockwork for the Industrial Palace, we aligned the tension shaft because it was crooked. The mounting of the air brakes was also repaired. At the same time, we approach the reconstructions in such a way as to increase the demands on subsequent maintenance as much as possible, ”adds Mariana Nesnídalová, owner of the family business L. Hainz.
