The mixed delegation of Cordovan officials and businessmen ended their tour of the Basque Country this Friday with a visit to Bilbao that concluded a meeting with representatives of Gaia, the cluster that brings together 605 computer, audiovisual, video game, engineering and industrial companies. that employ 23 thousand professionals, export 2,300 million euros and represent 7 percent of the Basque GDP.
Regarding the experience, Miguel Zonnaras, the president of the Chamber of Foreign Trade of Córdoba, stated that “We really consider it very fruitful, both for the business community and for the public sector that was involved in revealing the concepts and being able to internalize ourselves in an organizational, institutional and productive model that they have here and that has led them to achieve very interesting development indicators” .
Gaia is working in sectors such as electronics, information technology, engineering, and consulting, and has projects linked to industry, demonstration laboratories, and the main role it assigns is to link all the companies in the sector. Precisely this aspect is relevant for Córdoba because here they are working intensively on the formation of clusters.
Zonnaras said that he was able to observe, among the most positive aspects, “full public-private articulation in the perspective of a medium and long-term program that gives it continuity in the successive changes of government and authorities in the institutions.”
He also highlighted the head of the Chamber of Foreign Trade, “the focus on training, a topic that they consider strategic so that all these programs that are proposed can be carried out”.
This Friday’s agenda included a meeting with representatives of the Basque Food Cluster, which brings together 120 food companies. It was born in 2009 and has set as its mission “cooperate for a healthy and sustainable diet”.
They have the entire value chain: production, selection and distribution and constitute 10.7 percent of GDP, in addition to generating 13 percent of employment in the region.
Subsequently, the provincial delegation was received by directors of the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation, a corporation governed by public law and private management that represents the entire industrial sector of commerce and navigation in Bilbao and works on four strategic issues: employability, internationalization, digitization and business competition.
Regarding what the exchange of information and experiences with the Basque Country leaves behind, Zonnaras stated that it is worth internalizing “These concepts, which are what we have to carry out to try to articulate all the cooperation agreements that the Government of Córdoba is signing”.
Finally, he underlined “This opens up possibilities, opportunities and complementation in a scheme that we can define that our region can perfectly complement this region of Spain that has such good development rates”.
