The United Islands of Europe festival begins in Prague, where 54 artists will perform
During the 19th year of the festival, 54 artists from nine countries will perform on the ground and various forms of contemporary pop, rock, rap, post-punk, jazz and alternative music will be heard. The concerts will be complemented by a non-musical program called Islands of Inspiration. Admission to the music performance and other program is free.
The first musical performance that will start today at the festival on Střelecký Island at 15:45 will be a concert by the Ukrainian underground indie duo Gapochka. In the next hours, for example, the singer Štěpán Hebík, the Polish star Ofelia, who combines alternative pop with folk, or the band Thumper, will play for example 7 times3. She will present the songs from her debut album Delusions of Grandeur, which was released in April. On Saturday, listeners can look forward to performances by the representative of the Czech contemporary R&B scene, Annet X, the Dlina Volný trio from Belarus and the ALBI X rapper from Germany.
The non-musical part of the program will focus on the topics of freedom, diversity and sustainability at organized workshops, exhibitions or debates. Those interested will learn more about, among other things, shopping without packaging, sustainable production and consumer clothing or composting. Konsent’s workshops will focus on the issue of sexual harassment.
According to the organizers, the festival will also focus on more sustainable transport. There will be a pedestrian zone on Janáček’s embankment after the days of the festival, and on Saturday the entrance to the Legion Bridge will be limited, through which they will only be able to travel by tram. The historic T3 Coupé tram will also leave the station on the Legion Bridge, which those interested will be able to ride for free. One half-hour bike ride will be available free of charge to anyone who enters the code “united2022” in the Rekola service application.
The festival program, which has been held in Prague since 2004, is on the web www.unitedislands.cz. Concerts are created mainly on Střelecký Island. The stages will also be on Kampa or Janáček embankment.
