Two truck drivers were injured in the collision between two car transporters on the A2 near Hanover on Friday. The clean-up work lasts until the evening. The traffic is backed up for hours.
The two vans collided in the early afternoon on the A2 near the Garbsen junction (Hanover region), as a police officer told the NDR in Lower Saxony. The 34-year-old driver of a car transporter first had to slow down due to traffic. The following transporter of a 46-year-old did not expect more and fell over as a result of the collision. The van’s tractor unit fell across the roadway, its trailer landed on the embankment and also overturned. At least three loaded vehicle spaces on the roadway. Both truck drivers were taken to the hospital. They were slightly injured. The police estimate the damage at more than 500,000 euros.

Enormous consequences of the accident for traffic: because only one of the three lanes in the direction of Berlin is available on the A2 due to the accident until Friday evening, traffic was backed up for several kilometers. The clean-up work was not completed until late in the evening, so that all three lanes could be reopened.
Transporters had loaded e-cars
According to a fire department spokesman, both vans had only electric and hybrid vehicles loaded. The batteries in the cars were checked for thermal changes with a thermal imaging camera and secured, the spokesman said.
