ALL ANTWERP. “I would like to exhibit in the city” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Stan Wouter (65)
“Drawing has been my leisure activity since I retired. I started in the corona crisis. Out of sheer boredom really, because I had nothing better to do. I could do this easily at home. And if the weather is good, I will look for a statue to capture on canvas.”
“I always try to stay close. I live opposite the City Park, so that’s where I started with the War Memorial. I saw it as a challenge. I’ve never drawn or painted in my life. I have been an electrical engineer all my life. Sometimes I paint in Middelheim Park and there you meet a lot of people from the Academy who ask me where I got my education. And they are open-mouthed watching what I do.”
“I just have an eye for detail and a photographic memory. I think that helps. And I especially enjoy doing it. I don’t think this one is so successful. Certainly not when I compare it with what I’ve already made. My room is full of my work. I’ve been looking for a place to display them for a while, but I can’t find anything in the city. I can’t pay for it either, because I don’t have any money. And the material already costs quite a bit. Now I only expose on Instagram, as @vajabra, but I would really like to show my pieces physically.” coat
