Football, Sanremese. 43 years ago the victory of Siena and the climb to Serie C, the souvenir letter from Enrico Vella – Svsport.it
Here is the post published today by the biancazzurro midfielder, in memory of one of the most significant achievements of the western football world of the last decades:
3 June 1979, 33rd matchday
Serie C2, Siena-Sanremese 0-1
With one day in advance we won the championship, climbing in C1, the Sanremo fans present that day in the stands in Tuscany, (3 buses plus various machined) at the final whistle went crazy with joy.
When we left the stadium, we of the team, together with the technical staff and the management, stopped to eat in Pisa, and we were already drunk before we even sat down at the table.
On returning to Sanremo, there were many stops, arriving in the city of flowers at 4 in the morning and as we arrived at the Comunale, I, De Luca, Bertazzon, Carraro, Rolfo, Chiogna and Tosetti, set out on foot to Villa Adriana, the pension managed by Ceci Von Majer and family.
We were more than awake, we sang all the way and there was an air of celebration in the village. The following day we slept until the afternoon, and then went downtown for a ride, realizing what was happening in the streets of the center. Fans and shopkeepers began to dress the city and the shop windows for a party, dyeing Sanremo in blue and white.
During the week our training was concentrated with our heads turned to the last championship against Prato.
On Sunday 9 June 1979, at 3.50 pm, when we entered the field it was a unique emotion to see the stadium packed (5000 spectators) but the most beautiful thing was the invasion of the field by the fans at the final whistle.
From then on, the city of Sanremo started a party that lasted for the beauty of a month, starting with that triple whistle that started after an hour, myself and my teammates to reach PiazzaColombo, stopping before practically every room in which we were offered a drink!
That was one of the best days of my life, since, a few hours later, at WhiskeyAgogo, I met the one who after a year became my wife and later the mother of my son Manuel Namjou Vella, aka Lilli.
… It’s only been 43 years …
