Illicit trade in cigarettes from the Republic of Moldova to Romania, declining: “It is the lowest level in the last 15 years”
The citizens of the Republic of Moldova registered the lowest level of illicit cigarette trafficking in Romania. At least that’s what the latest novel shows, the volume and the share of cigarettes from our country in the illicit trade in Romania. According to the Customs Service, this is the lowest level recorded in the last 15 years.
According to the data held by the Customs Service, in the first five months of this year, 89 attempts to smuggle cigarettes were countered and 8 criminal cases were initiated, with a considerable increase in the detection rate by about 50% compared to the interval. from the year 2021
The figure of 3.5% remained between November 2021 and January 2022. The data are minimal and show that Moldovans sell less tobacco products compared to last year, when 5% were recorded in September 2021 and 12, 3% in June of the same year.
The statistics were presented during the working meeting held by the Management of the Customs Service with the representatives of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Moldova.
